Senate Faces SAVE America Act Showdown

The House of Representatives is out of session this week as House Republicans descend on President Trump’s Doral resort for their annual policy retreat.

The Senate continues to negotiate bipartisan housing legislation and may take up a vote on the bill this week. There is also a renewed push by some Senate Republicans to enforce a talking filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act, after President Trump announced over the weekend that he would not sign any other bill into law until Congress passes the voting legislation.

Lawmakers in the Senate will convene committee hearings this week, including the following:

  • The Senate Special Committee on Aging will discuss how China captured America’s drug supply.
  • The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will examine foreign influence in higher education.
  • The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee will discuss pathways to increase domestic conception of American agricultural products.
