Why We Strongly Support the National Museum of the American Latino on the National Mall
As proud members of Hispanic conservative organizations, representing entrepreneurs, veterans, community leaders, and patriotic Americans, we are united in our unwavering support for building the National Museum of the American Latino on the National Mall. This initiative is not just about creating a museum—it’s about honoring the rich, 500-year legacy of American Latinos and their indelible contributions to the story of the United States.
A Milestone Achieved, but More Work to Do
In December 2020, a significant step was taken when President Donald Trump signed the National Museum of the American Latino Act into law, authorizing the museum’s creation. However, an important hurdle remains, and additional legislation is needed to lift an existing restriction preventing the museum from being built within the Reserve on the Mall.
We are deeply grateful for the leadership of Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY), Senators Ted Cruz (TX) and Bernie Moreno (OH), and other bipartisan members who introduced this critical legislation earlier this year. This effort builds upon a strong foundation of bipartisan support, from the first Commission bill introduced by former Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Xavier Becerra to its enactment under President George W. Bush and President Obama. Now, with President Trump back in office, we have a unique opportunity to finalize this effort and bring the museum to its rightful place at the heart of our nation’s capital.
Celebrating Latino Contributions to America
For more than five centuries, American Latinos have played a vital role in shaping the United States. They have been pioneers, defenders, and builders—patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War and servicemembers who have defended our nation in every major conflict since. They have founded businesses, strengthened communities, and enriched the cultural tapestry of our country.
This museum is more than a tribute; it’s a testament to their enduring legacy. It is a reminder to future generations that Latino contributions are inseparable from the broader American story.
A Museum That Unites and Inspires
Building the National Museum of the American Latino is an act of unity. It sends a powerful message to young Latinos—and to all Americans—that their history, commitment to faith, family, country, and service are integral to our shared national narrative. By bringing this museum to life, we celebrate the diversity that strengthens our bonds of patriotism and ensure that the full story of America is told.
A Call to Unite and Celebrate
The time to act is now. We urge Congress to prioritize passing the necessary legislation this year. Together, let’s honor the contributions of American Latinos, strengthen our unity as a nation, and ensure their stories are preserved and celebrated on the National Mall for generations to come.
