RE: 119th Congress U.S. House Committee Leadership Roster

Overview:

The following memorandum gives an overview of the House committee leadership roster of the 119th Congress following this week’s votes both in the Steering Committee and each party meeting. Because Republicans will maintain their control of the Chamber next year, the Chairman will be a Republican while Ranking Member will be a Democrat.

Notable Committee Leadership Changes:

Agriculture: Rep. Craig defeated incumbent Ranking Member David Scott (D-GA) for the top Democratic post on the committee.

Education & the Workforce: Rep. Walberg will replace outgoing Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) who chose not to seek a term limit waiver to continue serving as Chair.

Energy & Commerce: The Energy & Commerce Committee will be led by Rep. Guthrie following the retirement of current Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA). Rep. Guthrie previously chaired the committee’s Health subcommittee.

Financial Services: Rep. Hill will replace retiring Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-NC). Rep. Hill currently leads the committee’s Digital Assets subcommittee.

Foreign Affairs: Rep. Walberg will replace outgoing Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) who chose not to seek a term limit waiver to continue serving as Chair. Rep. Mast currently leads the committee’s Oversight subcommittee.

Judiciary: Rep. Raskin will replace outgoing Ranking Member Jerry Nadler (D-NY) who chose not to seek a term as lead Democrat. Rep. Raskin was previously the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

Natural Resources: Rep. Huffman successfully joined the race for top Democrat on the committee after incumbent Ranking Member Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) chose not to seek another term as Ranking member. Rep. Huffman had led the committees’ Water subcommittee.

Oversight: Rep. Connolly is set to replace Rep. Raskin as top Democrat on the committee after defeating Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who also sought the post.
