Shutdown Averted

The federal government remains open today after the Senate passed a full-year continuing resolution (CR) last week, which largely extended last year’s government funding levels through September 30th.

However, the CR included several anomalies that boost defense spending while cutting funding for IRS enforcement activities and DC local government operations.

By passing this CR, lawmakers will now move to make their mark on the FY26 process ahead of the new September 30th shutdown date.

Meanwhile, both the House and the Senate are out this week. They will return next week to consider legislation, including repeals of various Biden-era appliance efficiency regulations and disclosure requirements for foreign entities’ contributions to American universities.

On the Administration side, President Donald Trump will hold a call with Russian President Vladamir Putin to discuss a ceasefire with Ukraine.
