Final Push for Healthcare Policy in 2025

With the last scheduled session week of the year underway, the focus of Congress remains healthcare legislation.

This week, the House will consider the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act ahead of the expiration of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies on December 31st. The House is also set to take up legislation to streamline environmental permitting and restrict gender-affirming care for minors and may consider two resolutions to block the Trump administration’s military actions against Venezuela.

The Senate will take up the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) along with a package of over 100 nominees. The Senate may also take separate floor votes on some individual nominees.

Lawmakers in both chambers will convene committee hearings this week, including the following:

  • The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will hold an FCC oversight hearing

  • The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs’ subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection will discuss policy and legislative solutions to ensure fair access to banking

  • The House Committee on the Judiciary will discuss how foreign governments target U.S. businesses

  • The House Committee on Small Business will examine the SBA Disaster Assistance Program

  • The House Committee on Energy and Commerce will discuss improvements to public safety communications
